Frequently Asked Questions

What is your cancellation policy?

I spend time preparing for each session. All rescheduling and cancellations must be made 24 hrs. in advance of you session otherwise the full fee is charged.

Is counselling covered by MSP?

Counselling fees may be covered by individual health care plans. I can direct bill to ICBC, the BC Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP), and the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA). Counselling in BC is not yet a tax deductible expense nor is it covered by MSP. Registered Clinical Counselling fees are GST exempt.

How can I pay?

Payment by cash, cheque, e-transfer, or credit card. Fees are based on the fee schedule set by the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.

What if I can’t afford counselling?

If you have low or fixed-income, or face other challenges that would limit your ability to attend counselling at the full fee we can discuss a discounted rate. I always reserve spaces for reduced rate counselling; however, this service is subject to a review of your income and there may be a waitlist.

In-person on online counselling, how do I decide?

Both forms of counselling are considered effective. Finding a counsellor that is the right fit for you is the most important variable. Read more about the benefits of online counselling.

How long will I need counselling?

People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons. I am a person-centered therapist and I believe each person knows what they need best (and I have some tools to help you if you don’t!). I respect each client’s decision about frequency and duration. However, I suggest a minimum of four sessions so we can get to know each other and build a trusting relationship. At first, most people find they want regular sessions every one or two weeks and then reduce their session frequency and contact me as needed.
